My rental car for Monday and Tuesday is a 2011 Edge. I have not driven one for a year or two, so it was nice to see what they have done with it.
The added horsepower is nice. You might even say it was needed, as it is a big (heavy) vehicle. Driving dynamics are about the same as before which isn't bad.
It has two big annoyances though. First is if the "My Ford Touch" that everyone is complaining about is what is in this car, they are right. It is a huge distraction to driving. I would classify it right up there with BMW's I Drive. It is all touch screen driven, but it is not at all intuitive. You can shut it down with one screen and when you start it up next time it has another screen. I stumbled across the screen that resembles a radio face once, but was never able to find it again. I tried paring my cell phone with it, but I could never get it and the cell phone on the correct screens together. The overall concept may be OK, but the execution of it is really horrible.
Second is the turn signal action. When you move the lever, it feels like it is broken. It took several times before I realized that it wasn't broken, but that is just how it works. After you move the lever, it jumps back into what you would think of as being the non-signal position, but they do flash until the steering wheel is returned. If you want to manually cancel, such as from a lane change, you have to flick the lever as though you are turning the opposite way. I'm sure a driver could get accustomed to it, but not without some effort.
