hi everyone, long time reader first time posting, now that I got that out of way. I have a little noise in the engine, sounds like lifters not pumping up.It happens in the mornings, colder the worser,When I rev it up to about 3 grand, then, when it comes down, it makes that ticking knocking noise, when it is fully warmed up its almost gone, but still can hear it.I was wondering if any others have heard the same thing? sorry about the long post,

Do a search...

Run a search on "engine ticking" and you should find a few posts. Most are with the V-6, but the noise is likely similar and considered "normal" per Ford. Alternatively, you can take it to your dealer and see what they think. If the noise was "lifter tick," then once you take your foot off the accelerator and the rpm's drop back down to normal you should have a few seconds of no noise. If the noise comes back immediately, then I would guess that you are looking at timing chain noise that tends to result more with the double-overhead cam engines...especially with the plastic valve covers. I think the 4-banger has the variable cam timing which I think might have cam phasers and they have been known to make a knocking-type noise. From all accounts, the noise is just annoying and does not harm the engine.
