I always do my first at 1500 to get the new wear stuff out promptly. Then I go to normal changes.

I had my first a little after 1000... Like Canyon said to get the new wear stuff out.
I would go with the manufacture recommendation. Not sure if FoMoCo does it, but I know that Honda puts additives in the manufacturer's oil that is to stay in the motor until 5000 miles.
Honda does not have a special factory fill. They use a lot of moly in there assembly lubes. Which rince into the oil giving the suspision of a special factory fill.
I highly recommend that you change your oil at 1000 miles again at 2500 than again at 5000. Then go with 3000 or 5000 mile changes, depending on your driving habits.
You can gain a lot of information by getting a yearly Oil Analysis done. I recommend http://www.dysonanalysis.com/
It gives you a good idea how your engine is wearing and as is the case with many GM cars antifreeze getting into getting into the oil.
I have heard all kinds of answers to this question. I waited till 2500 miles and almost 3 months. I also found out I have the cartridge oil filter...no extra charge for oil changes with this (my first 4 are free, anyway). Regular dealer price is 21.99 here and they provide a free shuttle service, but do not wash the car like our local GM dealer does for the same $$.
