Hello everyone. I am planning on getting a Fusion. I am searching 2013-2020. Test drove a 2.5 recently. Still have to try a 2.0 Ecoboost. My top priority is reliability and long term ownership. I'm looking at ones under 100,000 miles. Any input on that would be appreciated.
I own a 2011 Focus SES that's been a daily driver and fun project. 179,000 miles, runs great.No plans on selling it.

Hi Alan and welcome to the Ford Fusion Club. My opinion: If you are strictly looking for "reliability and long term ownership", lowest ownership costs etc., go with the 2.5L I-4. However, if you do want some extra power and refinement, look for an EcoBoost Fusion.

And keep in mind it is not that the EcoBoost engines are any less reliable. It is simply going by the old adage that less complexity can sometimes mean less things to go wrong. But that is only generally speaking, of course.

Full disclosure...This opinion, advice is coming from the owner of a 400hp, 3.0T AWD MKZ who had/has no worries about Lincoln T/Ford EcoBoost engine reliability.

Slow and steady, 2.5 hands down.

Even though the 1.5/1.6 Ecoboost are similarly rated HP and Torque, they are much more pleasant to drive, and 2.0 is much better still. However there are some common issues with all those I4 GTDI engines that make reliability lower than the 2.5.

My 2015 Fusion SE has the 2.5. It sounds like a tractor, gains speed like a tractor (all sound, but no go to go along with it), it struggles at higher elevations (it lives at 5500 ft). My 2017 Escape with the 1.5, while anything but speedy is still way more responsive.
