Re: Anybody done a Mazda 6 seat swap?

With all due respect, you're most likely wrong. The only thing that remains is the heater box and actuators... so, yes it really is that simple. If you have a pars car, it doesn't cost anything at all. Pulling the dash out of an SE or SEL car would leave you with everything you need to swap it over. I'll back the words up with action and prove it as soon as I can get a day off to pull a dash locally.

The only gotcha might be the ambient air temp sensor. it has to be located outside of the cabin somewhere and is likely on an accessory harness instead of the body or underhood harness. I'll find it, I'm just too tied up with seats right now.

Generally, manufacturers make two versions of a body and interior+dash harness(es): with options and without options. This keeps the cost down on base models and allows dealer-installed accessories (like the 'mood lighting' kit, spoilers, fog lights, etc) on other models. If I have to swap every harness in the car, so be it. I'll be pulling everything out for my black interior swap anyway.

Well, I'm certainly interested in seeing if it can be done.

Re: Anybody done a Mazda 6 seat swap?

It turns out that I was wrong about the Mazda 6 passenger seat; the seatbelt does attach to the track. I'm going to take a close look at what needs to be done over the weekend and possibly put them in the car (still haven't found a carpet set, so I'm a little frustrated). Anyone know of any reproduction carpet sets available for the Fusion yet? Still too new, so I'd guess there aren't any.

Re: Anybody done a Mazda 6 seat swap?

FYI: The seats swap as-is. Tracks and mounting points are identical... which means the floor pans are identical... just like with earlier platforms. The only problem I'm going to have is that I need to use the fusion pass side track because these seats came out of a 6 wagon and the pass side belt attaches to the floor in those cars (I just liked them better). The rears will absolutely swap. I'm probably picking up a complete set of MS6 seats this weekend. If I'm able to post pics (probably not) then I'll put some up in this thread this weekend of the test-fit. I still have to find a carpet set, so don't expect much :-).

If anybody is interested in a pair of like new 07 MS 6 black leather seats, I'll have a pair for sale here and indy and can meet you for delivery anywhere within reason. Make me an offer. FYI, these have airbags. You just need to swap your seat tracks and seat harness over.

Re: Anybody done a Mazda 6 seat swap?

I just dropped off my rear seat bottom to have a new cover made after the 2nd leather insert tore today when I put my knee on it. The fronts and rear seat backs are holding up well. I've seen a few threads talking about swapping seats, so I thought I'd do a quick write up about what needs to be done to use AWD MS6 seats in a FWD fusion.

Driver Seat - Driver seat fits no modification
Pass Seat - The alignment dowel on the inside front foot is in the wrong place. Drill a new hole for it (I just cut the dowel off)

Rear seat backs - Need to drill correct 1/2" holes for FWD rear seat back mounting in 3 of the 4 front brackets, all other bolts and dowels line up perfectly

Rear seat bottom - You need to retrofit the cover onto a regular 6 seat foam or modify your fusion seat foam to accommodate the seatbelt holes (the cover isn't slit at the back and the belts fit inward instead of outward as on the fusion foam). I just hacked up the foam a little. The next problem is that the AWD car has a different rear floor pan design under the rear seat because of the RX8 rear end that is fitted to the car. You need to have a panel sewn in to fill the gap, no big deal as it is vinyl anyway.

Wiring:

This is for 06 seats, Mazda changes wiring colors like most people change their underwear. The pin-outs are correct. Mazda uses 2 connectors for each seat instead of the single that is used by Ford. I t-tapped and soldered into the seat wiring (NOT the airbag wiring as my car is an S and doesn't have side curtains). For my seat connector, I went high-tech and used a 4-pin trailer harness LOL. It has held up fine for nearly a year, and my changes are completely reversible.

Rear side bolsters/fillers - Swap frames, add foam padding to frame using spray adhesive, stretch cover, trim, tuck, and staple as necessary. The mazda covers are actually larger than the ford ones, so there is plenty of excess after slotting for mounting tabs, etc.

Rear seat backs - Need to drill correct 1/2" holes for FWD rear seat back mounting in 3 of the 4 front brackets, all other bolts and dowels line up perfectly
