Clutch’s SES light came on the other day, it’s the P0456 code for a small Evap system leak. I’ve read that you should remove and re-install the fuel cap and clear the code, to see if it stays off. If it comes back, you may have an actual problem. I thought that these cars gave you a dedicated warning light if the fuel cap was loose, the fuel cap symbol on the dash. I don’t know if you’re supposed to get that light and the code together for a loose fuel cap; I only have the code, no fuel cap light.

My sister's Fusion had this code thrown. She had to get a new fuel cap. Tried the ones from autozone but it came back on. She had to buy one from the dealership.

Has anybody ever actually had that Loose Cap light come on?

It could even be a malfunctioned sensor. My sensor in my milan malfunctioned and when i took my car to our mechanic, he told us that the fuel cap, coolant, and some other things were in perfect condition, so he checked the module and he found that it had malfunctioned. Tell your mechanic to check the sensor as well.

I have never actually seen the light come on... then again I have never left the cap off to see if it does.
