My brother found on the internet a way to "bypass" the TPMS--sort of. Put the sensors in a sealed tube with a valve stem on it and pressure to 35 PSI and secure tube in trunk--computer will be fooled and you 07 and up guys can enjoy what wheel suits your taste.
Thanks 09fusion57.

I don't think this works for all. Some require motion.

Will it work for ALL Fords/Fusions? (If it ain't a Ford product--who cares? LOL)

Hi indycop. :wavey: Others have tried this in the past and it does not work on the Fusion/Milan/MKZ. At least not with the "band-type" sensors used on the 2008-2009 models. They are the motion-sensitive type and will only send signals while rotating. While I am not positive about the 2010-2011 valve-type sensors now being used, if I recall correctly those who have tried reported the same results.

Good luck.

I can say that on my '10 Focus (stem sensors?), my TPMS fault would clear every time I started my car in the garage with my sensor-less winter tires -- with the OE set stored nearby. This tells me that motion was not required on it? Either way, I would still drive with a light on before going through the hassle of removing the sensors (cost), building a device (more $), etc -- for a winter set. On a full-time wheel replacement, I'd spend the $ on the rebuild kit.

Hmm....if I have my factory wheels in the garage and have my TPMS comes on the way to work due to my snow tires being on, it will reset the next day when I start my 2009 Fusion up next to them.

Hi Chris. :wavey: Are you sure the system is not simply resetting because you are restarting the car? Like many other systems in our cars, I believe (but am not 100% sure, since my car does not have TPMS, and I have not checked the later model year Owners Manual for this particular issue) it resets when the car is restarted.

Good luck.

It only does it when I park the car next to my my factory wheels in the garage. If I park outside away from the wheels, the light will remain on. Just one of those things that make you go hmmm ;-)

Hi Chris. :wavey: Hmmmmm...if that is the case, then a little reading of the Owners Manual by 2008 model year and later owners may provide more details and answer the question. I have a 2007 (no TPMS), and am feeling a bit lazy at the moment so have not taken the time to download the 2008 and later Manuals to read the TPMS section. However, those with 2008 and later model years may be able to solve this by reading their Owners Manual.

Hopefully someone will take the time to do so and report back to us as to whether the Owners Manual has any information concerning this subject?

Good luck.

My Focus was the same way. The TPMS Fault would reset with my OE set in the basement (near the garage). It would then take 20 minutes of driving for the light to come on (lame). However, when I started the car at work (after sitting all day), the light/fault would be on. Either way, I was fine living with it vs. spending hundreds more (plus programming at every swap).

TPMS seems to me to have become another nuisance/money maker for car companies. Glad my 07 Milan doesn't have them.

To the car guy it has but for the everyday Joe who doesn't check his tire pressures regularly TPMS has proved itself very helpful from running underinflated tires and creating a safety hazard.
