Question about TSB .
« on: July 16, 2010, 03:36:37 PM »
So i got an oil change today and i wanted to get the newest ford tune done .. i searched here and found a TSB that enables them to do it, and my year of fusion was on the list .. but she printed up some sheet that said I didn't .. they wanted a $109 diagnostic fee to see if the tranny was really acting up. What do I have to do to get this tune, or maybe my car has it ?

Hi 07V6shaner. :wavey:  There are a lot of misconceptions concerning Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's), and this may be one of them.

Here is the short story: Not everyone is automatically entitled to the "newest tune" that may or may not be outlined in a TSB.  In fact, most times we are not entitled to the "newest Ford tune".  It simply does not work like that.

If your car is running fine, then there is no automatic Warranty right to changing the "tune".  Usually, the vehicle needs to be exhibiting the symptoms/problem that the TSB was created to correct.  And your car usually must still be under Warranty.  So most of the time, if there are no symptoms or no Warranty, then there is no "free" repair under the Technical Service Bulletin.  In addition, a TSB may only cover certain build dates in a particular model year (i.e "2007 Fusions with build dates between 12/25/2006-03/05/2007).

In this case, we do not know which TSB you are discussing, whether your car is covered under the TSB (correct model year and build date limits), whether your car is still under Warranty, whether your car was actually exhibiting any issues/problems and/or what you told the Service Adviser when you asked for the TSB to be performed etc. etc..  So it is extremely difficult to advise you whether your vehicle qualified or what to do next.

In addition, I believe Canadian Warranty rules differ from the U.S.  I have heard that under Canadian Warranty stipulations, if your car exhibits no symptoms of a problem, you can sometimes be charged for Diagnostic time.

More information would be helpful.  And it would probably be a good idea if you called the Ford of Canada Customer Relations number and asked them to explain exactly what your Warranty rights are concerning particular TSB's.

  Good luck.
