I still wish more American cars were made in the US.....however, my family and my grandparents on both sides, have always owned Fords.  Few of our cars have had major issues.  We have an 03 focus with over 100,000 miles that still runs great.  Our worst car in the past 10 years has been a GMC Envoy.  We had so many problems with that car, we got rid of it in 2 years because it wasnt worth driving loaner cars half the time while it was getting fixed.

My dad has always bought Fords and Mercury's, and Cadillacs.  Nothing else, ever.

I can't say I haven't owned my share of foreign cars.. Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi. But now I have had my Expedition since 2004 and now my 2010 Fusion and my younger bro has a 2005 Mustang and looking to add the 2011 probably.  We love Ford  :)

The Fusion is my 1st Ford since a '77 Mercury Zephyr... was very much like the picture

I am thoroughly impressed the Fusion, so much so that when the GF was looking for a car she ended up with the 2010.

I learned how to drive on a 1976 Mercury Marquis. Later my older brother had a Mercury Monarch. That thing could go! lol  I want to say it had a V8 in there.

ford's cars have been good quality for years — that does nothing to change the public's perception. the public's perception only changes when their god, in this case, toyota, falls and they look elsewhere

this is why lincoln will never be a mainstream luxury brand unless acura or audi have a big issue that involves 100 deaths or something.

Ford would have been better off keeping Jag and dropping Lincoln. Lincoln is a boat anchor and way over priced.

What are you smoking?  Lincolns are expensive but I wouldn't say priced out of their league.  Jag is and was junk forever.  Garbage car with a horrible reputaion and little to no re sale value.

You might want to do a little research before you lash out like that biggee. I agree that they used to be junk, but after they were in Fords hands that changed dramatically. Jaguars have for the past two consecutive years been ranked NUMBER 1 in customer satisfaction with JD Power and Associates  :morning:

Did you read the link you posted?  It says nothing about longevity or quality.  It simply means someone who was able to afford the car liked it during the time they owned it.  I'd bet most of them were leased and given back before the paint began to peel, etc.  Either way, there's no way it would have made sense for ford to dump lincoln and keep jaguar.  So how do you determine that a jaguar is a quality car by a JD power sales satisfaction survey?

And we all know that people traditionally give high praises to cars that they feel are are 'junk'

I didn't. I have driven and worked on both the older models and the brand new ones. The 2010 Jag is a incredible car and I wouldn't be the only one who feels that the car has soul. You'd have to drive one for at least a day to know that

I would hardly call Jag and Lincoln competitors (where the discussion should be keeping one or the other).  They definitely don't cannibalize each others' sales.

I said when Ford sold Jag that they were bailing right when the show was getting good (and profitable).  I was right.  However, without the cash the sale (and the huge debt they issued mortgaging basically the entire company) generated, Ford probably would have been on the bailout train like everyone else.

I never said the jags weren't nice.  I LOVE British cars, they are amongst my favorite.  I'm also a huge fan but the older Jags that aren't so great either.  Either way, You can't honestly tell me that the typical jag owner researched the car and then made the purchase.  I haven't seen anyone under the age of 60 driving an XKR.  It's also 50+ women driving the XJR's.  It's purchased simply for the name, nothing more.  They are nice looking, I even made a post about it in the passed, but to say they should have been kept and lincoln dumped?  Please.

Jags used to be famous for electrical issues back when the Brits were doing everything using Lucas components.

If it is anything like the '09, I get about 31mpg when cruising the speed limit.
