What does TSB # 07-18-6 pertain to?
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:48:54 PM »
I had my 07 Milan in for some service related items and while it was there, they performed TSB # 07-18-6, which involved replacing BOTH L & R FRONT axles!  The vehicle only has 31,xxx miles on it.

My Service invoice does not state what the TSB is (or was) for, only gives the TSB # and states replaced both front axles...

There was absolutely no charge for the parts or labor, however, I'm just curious as to what the actual TSB states?

Anyone?

Here ya go Cobra jet...

HALF SHAFTS—RATCHETING/CLICKING/CREAKING NOISE—COLD

FORD:
2006-2007 Focus, Fusion

MERCURY: 2006-2007 Milan

LINCOLN:
2006 Zephyr
2007 MKZ

ISSUE
Some 2006 and 2007 Focus vehicles equipped with a MTX-75 transaxle, 2006-2007 Fusion/Milan vehicles built on or before 7/16/2007, 2006 Zephyr, and 2007 MKZ vehicles built on or before 7/16/2007 may exhibit a momentary front cv-joint clicking, grinding, rubbing, or crackling noise when first accelerating the vehicle after sitting in cold ambient temperatures below 20 °F (-6 °C). The noise in most cases will only last for a few rotations of the coverage limits/policies are wheels and then go away. This may be caused by the grease in the outer cv-joint allowing metal to Warranty coverage limits metal contact.

ACTION
Correct the condition by replacing the axle shafts by following Workshop Manual, Section 205-04.

Hope that helps. It is a 2 hour job to do.

Thank you for that TSB info!

It's good that they performed this TSB on my Milan when I did not even know there was a problem!
