What is the weight limit for the Passenger Airbag

Hi,

What is the weight limit for the passenger airbag? My GF just tops 100lbs and it turns off when she's in the seat. Does the sensor need replacing?

I'm not sure, but I thought I read it in the owner's manual. 50 lbs. is in my head for some reason.

My backpack filled with 4 thick textbooks and my laptop set it off. I'd say around 30-40lb.

Re: What is the weight limit for the Passenger Airbag

I think its between 50-100 lbs...my wife weighs around 105 and depending on how she is positioned on the seat, the light will illuminate. Its a safety feature for those who don't realize its safer for you to have your kids in the back seat...

***EDIT***

Did a 'google' search and on a couple of website/forums people are saying that Ford Dealers have told them the airbag will turn off up to 110lbs.

Hi mustangpaul. Yes, you should bring your car in for service. The airbag should not turn off with a 100 pound adult in the seat and the seat belt buckled. Bring your girlfriend with you so that you can demonstrate your concern to the Service Advisers.

The Owners Manual explains the different scenarios in which the airbags sensors will turn off the passenger airbag. Take a look (it will be easier for you to read the Manual than for me to cut and paste it all here).

Good luck.

I beleave your car is being very polite to the lady. So the next she asks if she looks fat in a outfit tell her what would the fusion say.

My 17" Laptop and two or three textbooks will make the light turn on. Never had it turn on with a person yet, and the shortest one to ride in the front seat was a smidge over 5 feet lol.

Cleverly disguised as a responsible college student...
