anyone else have this problem yet?

Just switched to Mobil 1 and the next day.....oil on the garage floor.

Car sitting at dealership waiting for them to "diagnose it".

I told you what is wrong with it, just fix it.

Indeed.
How much oil was on the ground?

Re: Rear main seal leak!!!

Bout baseball size circle over night, every night. Dealer says could be oil pan, as it apparently goes up behind the transmission on the back of the engine.

I will hope for that. NOT real excited about having the engine pulled on such a new car.

Yeah hope it isn't anything major. Good luck with the repairs. Keep us updated.

Re: Rear main seal leak!!!

Back in the late 1970s, I used to do a fair amount of work on BMW Motorcycles and they had the same problem with Mobil 1 Motor Oil. The Customer had no leaks with Petroleum based and when they poured the Mobil 1 in, they leaked out of every Circular Silicone Seal. I was told that Mobil re-formulated the oil, to stop the problem.

Re: Rear main seal leak!!!

I guess it was my lucky day. If you can call an oil leak lucky. It was the pan gasket on the rear of the engine between the transmission and engine. Easy fix and I even got a free wash/detail out of the deal.

That's good to hear. Any idea what caused it?

Re: Rear main seal leak!!!

nope, they say it is an area that uses silicone to enhance the seal. It had been leaking for a while by the looks of the area affected. Switching to Mobil 1 must have exaggerated the problem. Now I don't know if I should stick with M1 or not. I do want to go to a full synthetic but I am finding this is a common problem with M1. Might try Valvoline.
