Re: G5M Transmission upgrades?

upgrade to an mtx75.

I have a lot of zx2 friends who went turbo on their cars and they COULD NOT even after getting gears cryo'd and polished w/ new shift forks and the whole works keep the trans together.

its a terrible trans and it does not hold power well.

I'm looking into what it'll take to swap in a mtx75. You should ask the guys at FSwerks and see what they say. They may know if the swap is possible or not.

Benito, you still have your Fusion? I thought you were getting rid of it?

Re: G5M Transmission upgrades?

Was planning it. But decided against it. I figured i'll keep the car and drive it till it dies.

who knew i was going to end up parting together turbo parts

I need a few more pieces and something else as a daily before i start throwing it on.

Re: G5M Transmission upgrades?

From what I learned from Mr Tea, it appears that I would have to get new axles fabricated, along with solving the mounts. And then there is the clutch...

Re: G5M Transmission upgrades?

There are only a handful of G-series parts. All of them are hard to find.

I rebuilt my Fusion tranny 2 months ago, and it's holding up better than my Probe/Escort/Protege's GxM. Ford certainly did use a better shaft, syncros/gears, and a stronger case on the Fusion. Unfortunately, the gear ratio would be hell to change, just because the strength of what we have now, is as good as were going to get, without getting custom made parts. I know the early Mazda3 turbo guys did have a 3rd and 4th made from .... gah, I cant remember the company off the top of my head. Good luck trying to purchase them, when I called 2 years ago about it, they were not interested in making any more, or dealing with the g5m.
The a6 is where it's at right now, and like benit0 said, the MTX75 already has such a good aftermarket, that the G-series was left to rot.

BTW, I rebuilt my tranny more out of curiosity. I don't know about your luck, but mine is really holding up well.

Re: G5M Transmission upgrades?

When talking to some of you at Carlisle, someone mentioned PAR engineering. I can get an upgraded 3rd gear for about 640 Aussie dollars. Or an entire gear set for about 3gs.

But they mention its for the G5M-R, so I'm not sure if its compatible.

- Good to know! I think we manual guys will sleep a bit better knowing this.
