Jaguar 320-watt premium sound vs Ford SEL base?

I test drove an 06 Jaguar X-Type VDP yesterday--fully loaded and everything, yet I was a little surprised and disappointed in the Alpine premium sound system. The sound was dynamic and very clear, but the bass and subwoofer were almost non-existent. I maxed out the bass and subwoofer levels, but it still wasn't anywhere near the "shake and boom" factor that I have now in my base model 07 Fusion SEL.

What's up with that?

Hmm, never had the pleasure (or displeasure as it may appear) of listening to one.

I could be quite possible that being a used car (and a Jaguar...), the stereo just doesnt work the way its supposed to. The amplifier could have a fried board, the sub may be blown, the stereo could have some settings that you're not used to which would have allowed you to hear the "full" sound as opposed to what you were listening to. Many, many different variables here.

I dunno....it could be how Jaguar does things. I was in a 07 X-Type last week and the sound was kinda weak there too. 6 Speakers.

I believe the Alpine system has 10 speakers

Actually it's 6 speakers with 2-4 tweeters I believe.

I was talking with some X-Type owners and they confirmed with me that the car actually has no subwoofer at all. I would have to install one of my own..I guess, that's not so bad, given everything else the car has.

This is the actual car that I was testing out:

No. 42,000 is the mileage!

They don't even have a warranty on it. WTF? They're supposed to be Pre-Owned Certified!

If they want me to buy an extended warrantym well they'll have to bring the sales price down to $17,250.

No used cars come with a warranty.

Unless the car still has a balance leftover from the factory warranty there really is not much you can do. Some places offer a third-party warranty for a very limited amount of time and mileage (6 months, 3000 miles maybe?) usually just enough to get you through an oil change or two. Even at that, its most likely just a powertrain warranty so if the motor or transmission goes, you are covered... but dont expect the clutch to be part of it.

I was told (by another Jaguar owner)--that certified pre-owned Jaguars are supposed to come with a select warranty--for this car, should be good for another 2 years.

I'm guessing he was mistaken...

If it's factory certified pre-owned (as opposed to a shady dealer "certification"), you'll have the 6 yr, 100k mile warranty.

Quote from the dealer:

"As a Jaguar Dealership yes we can sell a vehicle with the Select Edition Warranty; however it does not automatically come with the warranty due to us selling it. The vehicle has to pass our Select Edition inspection (Which this one did) and we have to activate (Sell) the warranty. Our cost for the Select Warranty is $2,100 for an X-Type which is not included in the price. I'm not sure if this clears anything up and sorry for the confusion."
Even the Jaguar Corporate in NJ said it is up to the dealer to include it in the price of the car or charge extra on top of the price of the car.

Those bastards..
