So as I'm hoping to be a father one day (soon) my wife and I have been looking to replace her Solara. I've looked at the Edge (Very nice just too expensive), the CR-V (Nice, just not enough car for the money), and some others. Today we looked at a GMC Terrain. I think this may be her next car. Didn't drive it YET but it's a gorgeous SUV and for the money it just can't be beat. The one we looked at was $30,400 and had every option except AWD, chrome 19" rims, and Nav. I don't care much for the AWD although I wouldn't mind it. I don't want 19" rims on an SUV and the Nav is superfluous. I think this is going to be it.
And like you said in the other thread, Ford just doesn't have something to compete. The Escape got some window dressing but needs to be replaced with a new redesigned vehicle and so does the mileage poor Explorer. GM will capture this market with their new vehicles and it sounds like you are headed in the right direction.
I'm sure Mama would appreciate the AWD though should you go that route. You never know it's there but it works like a charm. Congrats on the pending new arrival (not the one for the garage.)
Too bad you can't wait for the (concept) GMC Granite!
