Anybody shopping might wanna wait a few months to take a look at the 2011 Regal. Looks very interesting.
I had narrowed my choices down to the Lacrosse and Taurus... but if the salesman had said something about the Regal, I would've waited to look at one before going with the Ford. Not even a mention!

It looks like all three plaforms of the fusion milan and mkz had an abortion after a bad night of drinking. It has the roof and window line of all 3 cars the headlights of a new fusion, a butchered grill of an 06 milan and the rear of a camry. with mkz rear side lines. Oh one more thing its a bu-ick. ICK!! GM almost died for a reason. Oh I mean government motors. The only thing good out of gm is they weren't afraid to put factory superchargers on their cars. Now that we have ecoboost its all over.
That car is hideous! I like the new Lacrosse, but it is nowhere as cool as the new Taurus. If I had to choose a car of that size then I would be torn between the Taurus and the Hyundai Genesis Sedan.
I like it - allot!
AND I like the Lacrosse allot too!
GM may have needed a bailout but they are not too different then Ford. Ford wasn't hitting home runs either until recently and dare I say the new 2010 Taurus is not quite as successful as Ford may have hoped. I realize this is a Pro-Ford forum so there will naturally be allot of GM bashing going on but quite honestly I wish I could consider one of these new GMs for my next new car. I am forced to get a Ford via my Company and can be happy with a Fusion but dare I remind everyone to look at the poor seam alignment on the Mercury Milan. Is that something to brag about I ask? Not likely..
I would take one of these Buick Regals in a heartbeat.
Rodeo, you might not like it because the interior pics that I saw look very similar to the Taurus (confining?). There are several sites that have pics up... one of them had a gallery of 60 or so pictures and a lengthy article that mentions the design was originally going to be a Saturn, and if GM can keep the Buick guys from ruining it, they might have a hit on their hands.
And since you mentioned fitment issues, anybody looking at the 2010 Taurus should take a peek at the chrome trim piece on rear that terminates on the tail lights. I noticed both ends on mine aren't stuck down (noticeably so)... and today I looked at 4 more new ones on the lot and they're the same way. I don't understand how that can happen... it had to be missed by several levels of QC, at both design and build level.
Impala, Pre current malibu, Aveo, Pre current lacross, etc, etc. That's all I gotta say about the general. Oh, and the fact that they cut off their camaro/firebird. Oh, and the "GTO" which could have made it had GM thought about it first. I can go on and on.
You judge a car's success by how well it sells. Thats what counts to the Motor Company that built it and that obviously speaks well for the consumers who embrace it too. You guys crack me up looking for ANY reason to pick this new car apart.
My predictions for a New Year!
1. The Regal would (and will) easily outsell the new 2010 Taurus
2. The 2010 Taurus is already not a success and Ford will be forced to go to plan B which is to flood the rental fleets with the Taurus (something they didn't want to do.)
3. GM rebounds nicely thanks in part to really nice cars like the new Lacrosse and Regal.
4. The cracking sub-frame welds (on the Fusion) will eventually become a scandal for Ford that hits them sooner or later.
5. Mercury will be "offed" by Ford and the brand reduced to Ford / Lincoln / Mazda
I disagree. Each car company has issues. Look at toyota, now with their prius brakes. The regal will not outsell the taurus IMO. I say that because buick is geared towards an older crowd, (55+?). So I don't see many people in their 30's purchasing a buick regal while I can see them buying a taurus. I agree that the new taurus isn't impressive by any means. It is a nice car though. I guess we'll just have to see. I do agree mercury is a goner but I don't like to talk about that.

Even if they do line up better, that doesn't make it better looking. And it would be much nicer if they didn't copy the Mazda 6 verbatim.
[/quote]You must not have looked at the interior pictures. I looked at the 6 before I bought the Taurus, and the Regal is maybe 800 times cooler than the Mazda.

??? I'm not sure I've read anything other than what a success it's been.
Indeed, Taurus sales are off to a good start. In September, the Taurus bucked the industry trend with sales of 5,077, a whopping 60 percent higher than a year ago and 49 percent more than August. - By Michelle Krebs, Senior Analyst and Editor at Large
Man... not much out there on sales figures. A lot of forum chatter (edmonds, for one) about how pricing is gonna kill sales... but not many actual numbers showing up on Google. I think I read the other day that they'd sold close to 39,000 2010 Taurus... which wouldn't seem like a bad number to me.
I'm in the San Antonio area, and have yet to see another Taurus on the road. Don't know how it is in other areas, but a couple weeks ago, even the mega-dealers only had 3 or 4 on the lot, and some smaller dealers had none. One big dealer had one unit... an SEL with cloth seats... and it was 'on display'. I wanted to drive one, but I knew I wanted leather, and I really didn't want to wait around for an hour when they moved 19 vehicles to get that one out to drive. Once they get out to the dealers, I expect sales are going to be good. It's a 'love it or not' design.
I don't see many at all around here in NJ. I see more SHO's than anything actually. Same thing w/ the flex though. I see TONS of 2010 fusions. My father in law is 100% anti ford (even though he drives a mazda 6 now) haha anyway he rented a 2010 taurus in Fla and he was very impressed so that's a good sign.

I don't know where they're all going because I hardly see any on the street at all. In fact I hardly see any on Dealer lots too! A few of the Ford dealers I have visited locally have maybe one or two Tauruses on their lots and thats it. I get the feeling the car is meant "for order" only. The SHO is over-priced for what it is and few things noticable differentiate it from the regular Taurus. You may see one or two with dealer plates on them but actual owners will be scarce in my opinion. There are better cars for the same money and people with that money know it.
I remember reading early on too that the Taurus was headed for Motor Trend's "Car of the Year" which it didn't achieve and I speculate that sales are likewise not achieving either. Ford is treating the Taurus as a "look but don't touch Diamond" and consumers are obliging by not touching it. Time will tell just how sucessful the Taurus is or isn't. It does have a very confining cockpit and that may be turning lots of people off. It's a bigger car then the Fusion but the Fusion seems much more roomy inside. Fusion got "Car of the Year" instead and I feel Motor Trend got that part right. I think GM will definitely earn those honors next year though.
I just think your jumping the gun by saying they aren't selling. That MAY be true but we don't know for sure. And the SHO is expensive but I don't know if it's overpriced for what it is. Compare it to a 5 series BMW, E Class Benz, Volvo S60, etc. What are you getting in the Euro cars that you don't get w/ the taurus other than a symbol of how rich you are?

Like you said, time will tell the truth whatever that turns out to be. As for those people with the money, the status symbol part of it weighs heavily on them and they don't want their car to say "Ford" on it when they drop that kind of coin. Maybe if it said "Lincoln" instead......
I was thinking the same thing chips. It looks like the disgustingly new Acura's.
Oh and I'd take a new Taurus over this nasty Regal anyday. The only thing I like about it is the projector headlights but my Fusion has that so I really don't like this car.
Another fail for the gm team
