Anybody shopping might wanna wait a few months to take a look at the 2011 Regal. Looks very interesting.

I had narrowed my choices down to the Lacrosse and Taurus... but if the salesman had said something about the Regal, I would've waited to look at one before going with the Ford. Not even a mention!

I dunno, I haven't sat in a Regal yet, but from what seat time I got in a Taurus SHO, I was damn impressed and if I had the coin, I'd be "SHO'ing" off a new ride :p

Thing is that GM has to pull off a FLAWLESS launch on the Regal to get any serious sales traction and GM hasn't managed that once yet in god knows how many years

Well, they have it on the front page of the Buick website now, which is new. Used to be in 'future cars'. They don't have any pricing info there yet, but at least people may SEE that it's going to be available. I think it's going to end up priced somewhere between a Fusion and Taurus... and I think they're gonna sell a bunch of them once people start seeing it, and especially when they being out the V6. I'm about as 'Ford' as you can get, but I think it's a very good looking car, inside and out... with the exception of the way the fender lines are diagonal on the sides. They seem to stand out... particularly on the rear where the trunk lid goes the opposite direction.

I got 40,000 very nice miles out of my '08 Fusion, with near over 28 combined MPG, and no problems other than the stuck window at the end. It was comfortable enough, but a bit 'plain' on the inside to me. It was good as 'plain' goes, but I wanted something with a bit more zing. I think the Regal will offer that interior 'wow' without going to the 'large' category.

It may look similar to a *take your pick*, but a lot of cars look like others now. And apparently, that doesn't matter to the masses, or they woudn't be selling bajillions of Camrys and Accords year after year.

I reckon we'll see. And FWIW, I'm still waiting to see my first new Taurus in San Antonio (other than mine). Fusions everywhere, tho.

I just read in motor trend that GM is hinting @ a Grand National version w/ a 300 HP 6. While that's cool as hell..300 hp is nothing these days.

Yea but it's likely and probable that it would 'blow the doors" off a Fusion Sport right? :p

I predict the 11 Regal is not only a hit and sells well, but it helps resurrect GM like the Fusion has done for Ford. (Who saw a 2010 Taurus on their street? I don't believe you!)

BUICK UNVEILS REGAL GS SHOW CAR

• 21st-century successor to Buick’s Gran Sport heritage
• Bold, sporty design with unique exterior details and an aggressive stance
• High-output Ecotec 2.0L turbocharged engine and six-speed manual
transmission
• Adaptive all-wheel-drive system and electronic limited-slip rear differential
• 0-60 in less than 6.0 seconds
• Buick’s class-exclusive Interactive Drive Control System

DETROIT – With an estimated 255 turbocharged horsepower (190 kW), a six-speed manual transmission and an advanced, adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the Buick Regal GS show car is a high-tech, high-performance version of the brand’s newest sport sedan. It was introduced at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. The mechanical elements were developed with the aim of delivering a driving experience that is sporting, confidence-inspiring and refined. It has a performance-oriented drivetrain, a lowered body and lower center of gravity. Exterior and interior cues include two additional vertical front air intakes; large, forged aluminum 20-inch wheels and performance tires; a racing-inspired sport steering wheel and metal pedals. Recaro highperformance
front seats feature four-way lumbar support and cushion extensions.
“We designed the Regal GS to explore the appeal of a high-performance variant of the Regal,” said Craig Bierley, product marketing director for Buick. “Like the Regal, the Regal GS is based on the award-winning Opel Insignia, and we believe it will reinvigorate Buick’s storied Gran Sport legacy.”
The Regal GS exterior is distinguished by vertical air inlets in the front fascia, as well as unique rocker panels, an integrated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, Olympic White paint and satin metallic accents.
“The idea behind the Regal GS was taking the production model in a more aggressive direction to appeal to performance enthusiasts,” said John Cafaro, Buick design director. “But along with its aggressive stance, there’s sophisticated style in the design that complements the driving experience.”

I hope your right. I'm not anti GM by any means. But government motors has some work to do. Hell..I'm looking at a GMC Terrain as we speak because ford has nothing to offer when it comes to a small SUV. The escape it junk and I won't spend my money on it. The terrain is beautiful and rides REAL well. So again..I'm all for GM doing well and I hope one day it'll be nothing but American cars on the road again. (And I'm sure the grand national will be faster than the fusion sport but wait for the fusion GT) :p

Jeebers... 'junk' may be extreme. There's probably 898,430 Escape owners out there that are perfectly happy, my wife being one. I think it's a bit 'stark', but it's the first and only new vehicle we've ever had that I couldn't find anything to nitpick about. And I look.

We've had no issues with the '08, and had nearly 100K miles on an '03 with no problems whatever before we had to replace the engine (flood).

Agreed, I have an 07 Escape XLT V-6 AWD and it has been (and remains) a solid vehicle. I love it and have had no problems with it but do find fault with a few minor things.

1. The stock OE Tires wore like Iron (and I mean like IRON) but are road noisy forcing me to pull off the road often to hear my phone. Thats hands free of course and wth the volume all the way up. The road noise is almost unbearable. (60K miles and OE tires still have lots of tread life left - but then I rotated them all along the way too. Continentals!)

2. There seems to be a lack of insulation for just that, NOISE.

3. Ride quality in the back seat is subpar. It's OK to drive but climb in as a passenger and you will feel bumps on the bumps. Good thing I drive solo 90% of the time.

It is these reasons and these reasons alone why I am not replacing my trusty Escape with another new one. It's the reason why I am now opting for a Fusion, period.

SO, you guys are saying the NEW ones are noisier still?? Thats not good!

The new escape needs a MAJOR overhaul. Yes, noisy. It has no chance against what GM has to offer right now. I hate to say it but I was going to get a CRV over the escape until I found the terrain. If I'd buy a Jap car over a Ford..we know there is a problem. I'm sure it's reliable and all..but you know wives..they want to be comfortable and I want to know she's safe. I also want value. The edge is SPECTACULAR but cost near $7000 more for a similarly equipped vehicle. Now the 7000 won't make or break me, but I can't justify the price.

I would love to own one too but as you said, someone at Ford thinks it has solid gold floormats or something ($PRICE$).

Why do we think this vehicle is so high in price? I couldn't justify it either.
(And sorry for keeping the thread off-topic a bit longer.)

I just meant that I know the GMC is going to be a safe reliable car. Not that the escape isn't.
Safe, reliable car that lives in the garage......................My '04 Corvette went back to the dealer 8 TIMES! GM's flagship................NOT!

I'm sorry, never again. I want to believe in GM, but every car I've bought has been a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT in quality. I'll take the noise of the Escape, it never fails to deliver, yes, the original Continentals SUCKED, but that was easily fixed. Not as quiet as my new 2010 Fusion, but it is 5 years old.

To each his own, GM cars look pretty but don't hold up, at least in my experience, which has pushed me to dump them prematurely. Anyone want to buy a mint '04 Black 'vette 6 spd, 32 mpg hwy, LET'S TALK!

My point is EVERY GM car I'VE BOUGHT has had issues, serious issues, I've never had a Ford with transmission failure or engine failure. I've never had a Ford that had it's cupholder literally fall out of the dash while moving. ('92 Pontiac Transport, bought new) I never had a car in two years that literally had the vinyl peel off the door panels ('04 Corvette)

GM has some brilliant engineers, but their accountants always have the final say, therein lies the problem. I was a GM technician trainer (Engines) for 7 years, check out their machining, and their tolerances, it tells a scary story.
I remember back as a service Tech for Buick, the cylinder heads came through with rough castings for the surface where the valve cover sat, RTV
sealant was supposed to do the job. This 'vette is my last GM car. I've had great luck with all the Fords I've bought, new and used, I'm staying the course.

Holy wow... Edmunds now shows pricing for the Regal, and it's waaaay more than what I thought it would be. Over $28k base. I will now officially take back all my predictions that the'll sell them all day long.
I believe it when I see it on Buick's website, not before. The Regal is Buick's bottom level car so I expect it to come in at something more reasonable in base form. Besides, what car isn't approaching $30K these days. I'm about to order a Ford Fusion SEL V6 and that is listing out over $29K.

The Lucerne starts out at $29K, the Lacrosse starts out at $27K, so I expect the Regal to be below the Lacrosse somewhere but remember too the Regal will be released as a 2011 model year.

2011 Buick Regal Grand Sport (I want one!!)

What I understood from reading was they're only going to offer ONE trim leavel the first year, and only a 4cyl engine. Maybe that's the 'loaded up' MSRP. I just saw (noticed) the Grand National pics for the first time yesterday. If Edmunds wasn't generally pretty well spot-on with their prices I'd wonder if they got it wrong as well...
