So I've been thinking of gutting the cats to free up some hp.
Now here's the pickle I'm currently in. My current system is stock with a muffler delete. I know that it will be louder with gutted cats but I'm afraid it will be crazy loud with lots of drone which I don't really want.
I have also been thinking of gutting the cats and adding vibrant mufflers to the stock system.
I've also thought of picking up a Magnaflow cat back system and gutting the cats.
Now here's the question. The factory system flows pretty good and is 2.25". The magnaflow system is also 2.25" that flows well. But does the magnaflow piping really make a difference over stock?
From what I've read the big restriction is the cats so i might as well weld some vibrant mufflers onto the stock exhauat and be done with it.
Thoughts?
Cliffs:
Option 1- gutted cats with muffler delete
Option 2- gutted cats with magnaflow catback
Option 3- gutted cats and vibrant mufflers on stock system.
I have read allot so far about the cats being the most restrictive especially coming off the exhaust manifolds now in my opinion like you said being magnaflow having the same diameter exhaust tubes i wouldn't even bother getting a whole new system I would def go gutted cats and vibrant mufflers. IMO and maybe high flow resonator. Dont ya wish they had some kind of exhaust system computer simulator any exhaust on any car before you bought it ha
Oh yeah that jaguar is quite nice lol but it all really depends on how loud you want the car I guess But if it were me I would do option 3. Seems do be the most wise choice with giving you some extra hp without hurting the bank to bad with a whole new system. But hey idk how fat your wallets are ha
Yeah I also thought about a 2.5" set up but locally I can only do crush bent which ibwant to avoid. On the flip side I don't want to spend 1k on exhausy either.
Sounds great! Sounds like mine but a little more pissed off lol (in a good way). I thought about cutting the cats out but I think it will drone like crazy and sound gross with my muffler delete.
I got an exhaust shop to just cut my resonator and cat out. Kept stock mufflers for now and will change them out eventually but it sounds good actually.
@blackbetty What kind of vibrant mufflers are you thinking of? I had some Vibrant 1146 mufflers on my 02 Taurus, thinking of getting similar ones. Maybe Borla ones from the catback system, and then delete the resonator.
I started with cutting the mid muffler and resonator out. Then took it maybe to far and cut the mufflers. Its not to bad it does drone but im used to it. I love the sound at idle and the fact people look at my car like WTF. I am thinking about welding some upgraded mufflers in I just haven't felt like doing the research or the work nessecary.
You will have to do a 2.5" exhaust from the rear Y pipe back, then the vibrant mufflers and might as well throw on some bigger tips to fill them holes!
Yeah it's crazy. I've been thinking of fabbing up my own exhaust.. Just buying 2.5" mandrel bends online as well as the mufflers/tips and getting a shop to weld it all together.
Can't be that hard really. Then I can put it together in my garage.. Better yet, I think there's a guy at work with a welder.. Hmm
black00betty its not that hard I would recommend buying sleeves and welding them. Even if it doubles the welds. That is what I did for the rear section. Quick question??? Has anyone used a resonated tip. I feel like its just a B.S story but they really don't cost any more than regular tips. I have watched videos they seem to change sound a little but they were all on stock cars. I am attaching kind of crappy clip of what my car sounds like. I am planning on doing another video with cold start, take offs and drive by. There is a WOT rasp I want to get rid of which I plan on finding a set of mufflers to weld in. Unless these tip really make a difference and at that enough of a difference. Any suggestions on mufflers are welcome. Here is a link to the tip I am thinking about buying. http://www.amazon.com/DC-EX-1012-Stainless-Resonated-Exhaust/dp/B003D4MA30/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1429875887&sr=8-7&keywords=resonated+tip
My old car (3L Cougar) had a really poppy and raspy exhaust and I just added a dynomax resonator where the factory one would have been and it was fine after.
I had full exhaust on the car headers--no cat--resonator--dynomax welded ultra flow mufflers-3"tip
cats then straight pipe. the video with my last post is pretty much as bad as it gets. at first I just took out mid muffler and resonator. this left me with a ricer sound on hard acceleration. so the noise now beats that but im picky must fine tune.
