Exhaust question/opinion!

Hey guys/gals.

So I've been thinking of gutting the cats to free up some hp.

Now here's the pickle I'm currently in. My current system is stock with a muffler delete. I know that it will be louder with gutted cats but I'm afraid it will be crazy loud with lots of drone which I don't really want.
I have also been thinking of gutting the cats and adding vibrant mufflers to the stock system.
I've also thought of picking up a Magnaflow cat back system and gutting the cats.

Now here's the question. The factory system flows pretty good and is 2.25". The magnaflow system is also 2.25" that flows well. But does the magnaflow piping really make a difference over stock?

From what I've read the big restriction is the cats so i might as well weld some vibrant mufflers onto the stock exhauat and be done with it.

Thoughts?

Cliffs:
Option 1- gutted cats with muffler delete
Option 2- gutted cats with magnaflow catback
Option 3- gutted cats and vibrant mufflers on stock system.

It wasn't that hard to make a custom 2.5" exhaust and it was cheaper than a magnaflow catback, just not as pretty but you can find every Mandrell bent on 409 stainless on ebay:

the only thing i would've done differently is the Y pipe i used, I would've used this one to avoid the 30 degree bend i had to use to shoot the exhaust straight due to the dual inlets too separated on the flowmaster y pipe:

That was slowLSJ that was called out on his gutted precats. He didn't think it was that big of a deal.

10sbmsport is te fusion in the videos I posted.

Your exhaust sounds great hollenjoe.. For the price I think it's worth doing a full cat back in the 2.5" mandrel bent.. Should get a little gain with the bigger piping.. Gut the pre-cats and Get rid of all the restriction!

Pretty excited.. I'll have to keep my eyes open and slowly collect parts to get this done.

Quick question.. Did you just crawl under the car and measure things up so you knew what to order?

Bit of a bump..

Crawled under the car and snapped some pictures the other day. Got a parts list and it's not really looking very good to be honest.

From CD3Performance
The magnaflow kit is $719- 2.25" mandrel bent
Borla is $949 2.5" mandrel bent.

Cheapest I could find is about $630.

That's just for material no labor for welding/install etc. So I could probably add another $100 or so to the $630. While the other kits I could install myself.

Starting to think I should just do the magnaflow kit and gut the pre-cats.

Especially after hearing this:

From what I remember he said that's the magnaflow, no cats or resonator.

why don't you keep your stock set up, just custom make a 2.5" Y pipe and have it reduced to 2.25" just before the original resonator and install vibrant resonators instead of the original mufflers.

In my opinion the worst part of the exhaust besides the precats is the crushed and weird Y pipe, so the new y pipe could handle all your exhaust volume and when the exhaust starts to cool of the 2.25" would keep the exhaust velocity high still being able to handle the volume.

off the shelves cat backs are a waste of money, the piping is just a shiny version of the stock exhaust...

look at in next to a 2" pipe
