Throttle Body Noise.

Well coming from 1995 with cable throttle car I hate all ETB but what I'm gonna do, that how every car is now.

My 2007 MKZ 3.5 have 91K on it now. When I press the throttle when key is on ON position (engine off). When I press on throttle I can hear the very high pitch noise at all range. But pitch doesn't seem to change. When I let go it goes away. Is my ETB about to fail or need to be replaced repaired?

I don't have anything to base on how it drives but I doesn't have torque of my old Caprice with 225K miles on it.

I bought it used with no warranty so I'll be doing my own work.

There is also small dead zone on pedal before TPS will register input.. I wonder if there is way to get rid of that also.

So... you hate change?

I assume you have a V8 caprice. So no, the TQ won’t be the same. You shouldn’t compare apples to oranges. Otherwise you’re in for a world of disappointment.

The noise is most likely nothing in need but a little oiling. I would pull the air hose off and visually watch it while someone plays footies with your pedal.

otherwise you’re shooting fish in a bucket.

Hi 2007MKZ. Difficult to impossible to diagnose over the Internet whether your "ETB' is about to fail or need replacing.

This is what I can advise: There is normally no need to be pressing the throttle with the ignition in the on position and the engine off. So if the noise is only occurring under those particular circumstances, simply stop pressing the throttle with the ignition in the on position and the engine off.

Since you probably don't know the maintenance records for your new car and you feel the engines power band seems to be off, perhaps you should have an engine tune-up performed.

Keep us updated and good luck.

The reason to do it so that the noise is not covered by the engine noise. Just want to see if that is normal. I don't know I might have a bad actuator/motor in there.

Far as maintenance record goes, I carfaxed all the cars I looked at and this one have most records and all done by the dealer I bought it from, mostly oil changes, TSB and brakes etc.

Hi 2007. I understand why you did it, but the point is there is no reason to do it. Cars make all kinds of noises which are normal and covered by the engine noise in daily use.

As far as the maintenance records, you don't mention a tune-up, so if your concern is that the power band seems off, the rest of my advice still stands. Have a full tune-up performed and when you have that performed, ask them to check the "ETB".

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

The high pitched whine is completely normal. The throttle body uses a digital servo motor, which make the noise while under load. When you release the pedal and the engine is off the throttle closes completely (you might hear a click) and then the motor turns off and the throttle opens to the neutral sprung position. When the engine is running you can't hear the whine, but it's still there all the time.

Make sure you are looking at the accelerator pedal position parameter if you are looking for pedal dead spots. There are three sensors, so I doubt you have one. There are also two throttle position sensors inside the throttle body. Also remember that the throttle will not always move with the pedal (PCM commands the throttle body to move, not the pedal directly).

Thanks, that answer I was looking for. Dead spot I'm talking about is for 1st a few deg of pedal press there is not response on TPS, don't know how to tap into pedal yet, not read that part of service manual yet. Not big deal, may be its just that way and something that I'll get used to.

May be TPS is on the Pedal it self now.
