So I've been searching/looking into gutting my precats. I'm not 100% sure I'll be doing it yet just doing research for now.
Now I could crawl under the car and start pulling things apart to have a look but before all that I figured I'll check with someone who has been there.
Looking at other threads it looks like the precats can be unbolted from the manifolds. Now is it as simple as take them off gutting and bolting them up again or is there more precat in the manifold?
I've had headers in previous cars but have never gut precats so I'm not really sure how hard it is to get the material inside out.
The car only has two cats front and back. Depends really on how much surface rust you see, they could drop right down or be a pain in the ass. I used an air chisel one mine
Just drop the exhaust not the manifolds unless you wanna port them. Its pretty easy !sorry it took so Long to respond. since I dont mod my fusion anymore I don't come here as often :/
Gutting the cats isn't hard. From what I remember, there was three bolts on each cat where it attached to the exhaust manifold, then a couple of bolts at the exhaust flange. It seems like there was a bolt or two near the middle of the cats to connect them to a support bracket too. I don't clearly remember because it's been a minute since I did that and have since then traded that one.
With all that said though, it's not hard to gut them on the car, but it's much easier to gut them off the car.
My last car you needed to remove the manifolds and if I remember right cut them and weld. I never gutted them since there was aftermarket headers.
I'll have to get under there one of these days! The plan is to remove all the cats, keep the resonator and bolt on a couple mufflers on the end. Thinking of the vibrant/MRT ones.
