Service Advancetrac

Just got my 2012 Fusion SEL I4 a few weeks ago, less than 900 miles on it. Was driving home from work yesterday, I might have been pushing it a little faster because I was in a rush to get home, but nothing crazy. Out of nowhere, "Service Advancetrac" appeared on my dash. I looked it up on the forum and found a few articles about it, some saying to turn the car off and turn it back on. When I got in my car a half hour later, it was still on. Went out to eat, got back in the car, it was gone.

Is this something I should be concerned about? And what is advancetrac. I also noticed the traction control button below the AC controls. Can someone fill me in on this feature and when I should use it?

Hope you're liking your Fusion!

First and foremost - there are two separate things: Traction control, and stability control.
Traction control prevents excessive wheel spin, and stability control will prevent your car from, say sliding on the road, or if you take a turn too fast it can apply the brakes for you, etc.
Traction control, you would want to use primarily in ice/snow or rainy conditions, and the same with stability control.
If you really enjoy spirited driving, you can turn both off, but just be warned that disabling them can be a safety risk.

Second, as for a solution: I'd take it straight to the dealer since you still have a warranty.

Stability Control cannot be simply turned off.

It would be great if the button did that, but it does not. Only traction control can be turned off.

To disable AdvanceTrac (Stability and Traction) a fuse needs to be pulled. The lights will turn on signaling an issue, but the systems will be disabled.

This is useful when drag racing, dyno testing, and autocrossing.

10sbmsport, would you be able to provide a picture pointing out the particular fuse for this in the fuse box? I've been wondering for a while which one it is, I'd like to be able to pull it on days like yesterday here in MI when we got hit with 15in of snow. Im sick and tired of it, be powering through the deep stuff just fine until that kicks on and stalls all my momentum then I get stuck for a second. Anyway, I have a 2010 sport AWD, was doin donuts in a parking lot that my girlfriend had to leave here car in trying to break up the snow around it and make some tracs for her to drive out of it in. Service advance trac message popped up right after that, no abs lights or anything else. Cycled the key, hasn't come back since but the breaks haven't felt right since then either. It's kinda been feeling like its pulling to the left a bit when I hit the brakes occasionally, and they feel weak at that. Does anyone happen to know if there's a common issue with the ABS units on these or something? Thanks

The button disables traction control only, and only at lower speeds. If you redline the engine, it'll turn traction control on again.

Your owners manual has a breakdown of the modes.

There is a little ring on your CV transaxle. If this gets bent or loose it will throw your warning as well. That is what happened to mine driving down I10 at 1@@. Scared the snot out of me. Good luck! Hope this helps.

I got underneath of the vehicle and found a bunch of Ice packed up by the sensor, so I think it got wet or blocked a little. Hasn't tripped since.

ahanix- I haven't had it turn traction control back on on its own, at the same time I guess I would also say I don't redline much at all. I've had it hit the limiter but never had it turn the traction control back on.
