Street Unit Motor Mount Install!!!!!!!!!

OK i got my motor mount yesterday and installed it tonight. Took about an hour and his going to require a few things to do the job.

A friend to help at the end
15mm socket and 1/2 ratchet
car ramps (suggest ramps not jack stands for this as you takes some tugging and pulling and you do not want to knock the car off)
hammer
screw driver
floor jack (blocks of wood maybe required if your jack is not tall like mine)
lock tight

here is what you start with

place jack under oil pan with blocks to make sure you do not damage the allum pan and take some press off the mounts

remove the 2 15 mm bolts that hold the large and small end of the mount. The motor is still under some pressure so it is going to take a screw driver or center punch and a hammer to tap the bolts out. The motor is going to move so or at least mine did so do not worry.

once bolts are out the mount will just fall out. here is what it looks like. the small end is very weak. the slots are open all the way thru and you can move it around with your hand no problem.

Here is the new Street Unit mount. Very nice part very well made from what i can tell.

Now it is time to reinstall the mount. The only problem i had was that the small end of the mount is very very tight. i had to use some lube on it to get to start and go in place then take another floor jack and press fit it into place. That is the only thing i can see worng is that the small end of the mount may need to be about 1 to 2 mm thinner than it is. But it may be designed for a very tight fit. What you have to do is instal the small end first like i said abot with the floor jack so that it presses into place. once the bolt holes line up just install the one both with the nut that has the end welded onto hit to hold it while you are tightening it.

Once you have the small end in place you will need your firend under the car with you. He(or a very strong she) will need to push up on the motor to help the big end rotate into place so the bolt holes line up with the mount bracket. once it is lined up get that bolt started and tighten it up then finish tighening the small end bolt as well. That is it you are done

DISCLAIMER This is how i did mine. If you follow my instructions you do so at your own risk i take no responsibility for anything that happens to your car. Thank you

PS i have taken it out for a drive a couple of times and i love it. There is more vibration at idle but it is not to bad. i know my wife will hate it but it is my car and her Escape is the family Veh now so does not matter. I went out side of town and launch faily hard and the tires did spin and NO WHEEL HOP Plus there is more power getting to the ground for sure. It spun the tires alot more than it has. My friend that helped me was riding with me and just could not believe the diff. Over all this is a great PERFORMANCE MOD. If you use your fusion for a daily driver family car and like the nice quite comfortable ride this is not for you but for us on the forum that want to get everything we can out of the car this Motor Mount is for you.

Boy Dan that is some of the best pic taking I've ever seen in doing a mod, ranks up there with SG's work. It sure is a great looking piece of equipment and is something I will be definitely considering along with perhaps the VF Engineering mount, nicely done bud :goodjob:

What about the wheel hop?
Sorry by bad. Updated mine to say no wheel hop at all. The real test will be next time it rains. then this winter because in the snow it was very bad. But as of right now there was nothing no wheel hop what so ever.

Ya, nice write-up and pics.

Is that thing solid metal? Who makes it? Link?
it is billet allum with urethane inserts for bushing. After driving on them this weekend and coming to work i have to say i like it alot. Again there is a little more vibration at idle only. when you are driving or anything 1,000 RPM or more you cannot tell it is there. The vibration does increase when you are at idle and have the A/C on because of the load the A/C puts on the motor. But i also do not use the A/C alot and i do not drive in rush hour traffic or anything so i am rarely at idle. Overall very happy with it so far. The real test will be winter time and the major wheel hop issue that the fusion as always had. so far it is good but in the snow will be the real test. here is the link

http://www.streetunit.com/SU_Ford_Fusion_Engine_Mount_p/suffamm.htm

**PS** just talked to one of the guys at Street Unit and he said the added vibration w/ A/C on normally goes away by 1K or so. Or at least that has been the case on the Mazda's. They are going to use my pix for there instructions so i am getting them over today.

Boy I'm so close to ordering as I write this but I'm considering the VF Engineering set also...

Dan I'll assume you ordered it with the 62A durometer urethane then ;)
ya i did. Did not figure i needed the race mount that would support 450HP.
Not yet but I was inclined to call their Focus Sport division but it's the same number, so who knows. pm me on msn if you can...

I just phoned them and they actually answered and were helpful but they are not achieving the generated sales they had hoped for for the Fusion so it's in limbo land right now. They do carry some suspension components and a few other parts but as of right now such things as engine mounts and any turbo development is on hold at the moment :( I guess we'll have to hold out for Steeda on this one...

if you organized a group of people to buy a product from fswerks (focus sport) they'd be more then willing to do a product in bulk. I've talked to randy (focus sports vice pres) about it.

FYI, Ricardo at F2 has mentioned that they will be offering a motor mount for the Fusion in about a week or so, once pricing is set. Personally, the SU mount looks about as good as it gets, but I will wait out to see what F2 has for comparison sake...
ya the SU mount is great. i have zero complaints so far. I like it lot.

I love what F2 has done/tried to do for us. I knew while contacting part-makers about a mount that if Street Unit would make one for us, this would be the end-all to any search. Best mounts that we can get for daily/street, hands down.
That site is nice, but sheesh a 375 WHP Focus? Now that makes me ill :wtc:

the focus mount is diff. i checked into them a while back. if you look the big end and small end they are twisted 90 degrees from each other. other than that they would have been close

yea, now that i think about thats correct. it has a twist in the middle, worked great. mine still needed to be a little stiffer, after a year on the car and some aggressive driving it was worn out and needed replacing. cfm sold a bigger unit but never got around to replacing it. keep us updated on yours.

will do. if anyone turbos or SC's the fusion Street Unit does have another with harder bushings in it that will support 450 hp if i remember right. i went with the street mount because i do not need the full race one. Not for a long while anyway. So far i love this thing. have a few hundred miles on it now and hardly notice the added vibration at all now. my next oil change is coming up and will recheck the bolts them just to make sure they have not backed off any.

Slate, did the motor mount help/stop the exhaust from hitting the H-brace when you get on it hard? Just wondering before I buy both. Thanks.

 thanks for reminding me. Yes it did. i have not heard it hit once since i installed it so it has helped a lot. i would bet when i autocross i may still here it but that is in extreme driving but will have to wait till the end of the month to find out. But as for daily driving and just getting on it for fun it has def helped with that.
