Block heater cord

Anyone else notice the goofy position of the block heater cord? During winter months (which is 4 mos long here) it has to hang right out front between the hood and grill rather than being concealed as on other models.

Re: Block heater cord

Over the years, I have seen alot of them hanging out of the grill. I just figured that mut be the best place for convenience.

Re: Block heater cord

Same here, the Taurus for instance has the receptacle tucked away in the bottom of the bumper facia, you can't see it. I just think seeing a big black cord flopping around the front of a nice looking grill is a little distracting. Oh well, guess I'm just nit picking now

Re: Block heater cord

It looks like hell sticking out of the grille, I have learned to live without it , it does not take TOO long here in WI to warm it up in the AM, I get on a highway immediately leaving the house so it's about a 4 minute trip to get heat.

Re: Block heater cord

Only had my 06 since Sept. it's finally real cold here. Sub zero.
I can't get my hood to close with the block heater cord hanging out. Anyone else experience this?
Having to open and close the hood all the time kinda blows.

Re: Block heater cord

How did you get the block heater cord? Do you have to buy it seperately? My car came with the engine block heater (it's listed on the window sticker and the car came from Wisconsin). My dealer told me I had to buy the cord and it was some outrageous price like $80.

Re: Block heater cord

All,
Does anyone have photos of this block heater cord? What's it for? I've never noticed it on our SEL AWD 2007 but I haven't really gone looking for it either. Will someone please enlighten my dumb butt? Boz

Re: Block heater cord

Hi urnews. Take a deep breath, have a seat, and calm down. You haven't seen an engine block heater cord on your car because you most likely do not have the "Engine Block Heater" option.
I would not think it would be a necessary option in Maryland (nor in NJ, where I am). It is for regions that have very cold winters (think Canada, Montana, Minnesota, Siberia, etc). Keeps the engine block and oil heated, electrically, so as to avoid the extreme engine wear, hard starts, long cranking, etc, that can occur during extreme winter conditions.
The cord the other posters are speaking of is simply an electrical plug end, which is connected to an engine block heater in the engine, and you would connect to an extension cord, which would be plugged into an electrical outlet before you parked your car for a long period of time.
All is well! Of course, you know I luv ya man!

Re: Block heater cord

BBF,
I figured it must be something like that. Nope, our '07 SEL AWD did not come equipped with one. Maryland is like Miami compared to Siberia (They sell Fords there?). It's 60 degrees here on January 13. One less thing to worry about. LOL.

Re: Block heater cord

So no one has any tips for where to run the dang thing out of the hood?
I'm either majorly overlooking something or mine was built incorrectly or somthing.
Frustrating.
