I wish I could...Ever thought of building a nice dual AMD 64 machine to become your server. I built one for someone and good god it was incredible. My partner is hosting his site on a sweet AMD machine also.

Where are you getting the parts for this server from? I sure hope you're not paying retail.

try NewEGG.com You should be able to assemble a nice server for 2000$ TOPS.
$350 Mobo
$500 CPU (2x XEON)
$120 RAM 2GB
$300 SCSI HDD
$200 CASE
$50 Power Supply
$20 CD Drive
Total $1540

I'll keep it in mind though! Thanks!

We will absolutely not be BUILDING a server. The idea of this is to get off of white box pc servers. Also there's a bunch of software costs.

And Frosty, no it will not necessarily come from IBM. What we get will be entirely dependant upon available funds. Even at Dell though, it's easy to spend $2500+, even with all their deals. At IBM, it's easy to spend $4000+. And again, those are just the hardware costs.

Most likely it'll be an IBM x336 or Dell SC1850 chassis. Other companies are possible, though.

Just to clarify our position a bit more:
Whatever we buy will probably be overkill for what we need today. But it will keep us running for some time to come. In addition, buying a white box pc to go into a datacenter is not exactly the greatest idea if you want uptime. Once it goes in, it needs to run untouched. This is NOT hosted out of my house.

With all this information it would be nice to see Mazda make a donation. I bet this site and community has been the deciding factor in many Mazda purchases. Time for some corporate sponsorship?
