A few minutes ago (2:15 PM CST) I noticed that there were "50 users online :: 9 registered, 0 hidden, and 41 guests!
I figure the more members our site has the better. The more people contributing (constructively of course), the better off we'd all be.
Now, some of those people are just doing research and have no interest in "joining" a car forum.
But some of them just may be like I was when I first stumbled upon this site which was TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS
as to how online forums operated.
I found this site in mid Jan and was a "lurker" until my 1st post on April 13th. During those 3 months
, I probably checked the site for info once or twice a day
, each time straining
to figure out, in each
sub-forum, where I had left off from my previous visit, which posts I had read, and converting the default forum time into my own time zone to try and help figure this all out.
Imagine my surprise
when, when I finally had something worth posting about and joined the forum, that everything gets converted into your own time zone and there was a nice orange marker next to every post since my last visit!
smacked my palm to my forehead when I realized how much time I'd been wasting for the past 3 months!
If I'd have known that those features were activated simply by joining up, I'd have done it probably on my 1st visit to the site
My suggestion is to either post a notice
about these facts or a link at the top of the main forum page that says "Why Join
?" so that people who have no experience with message boards or enthusiast forums will understand how much easier the site is to use after you've registered!
I sure wish I had known and think that some of those "41 guests
" will be doing this
when (or if
) they ever get around to joining!
